Open-source, on-device wake word detection for React Native. No cloud, no license keys.
react-native-nitro-wakeword is an open-source React Native library for on-device wake word detection. It runs the openWakeWord pipeline (mel spectrogram, speech embedding and keyword classifier) on ONNX Runtime, with no cloud services, no license keys and no vendor lock-in.
Audio capture is fully native on iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) and is exposed through Nitro Modules, so JavaScript only receives detection events. Several keywords can run at once over a single shared audio front-end, and an optional Silero VAD gate cuts false positives.
It works with Expo (config plugin) and the bare React Native CLI, offers both an imperative API and a useWakeWord hook, supports background listening, and lets you train custom keywords in any language with a free Colab notebook.
